Junior English (H) – Grade 11 – 5 Credits
The new Junior English curriculum is built around British literature and its ever-present, worldwide influence. Universal themes found in the great English epics of long ago continuously inspire contemporary filmmakers, writers, and artists; while William Shakespeare’s plays have become international, cultural touchstones, translated into every major living language and continually performed around the world. Exploring concepts related to freedom and autocratic power in modern adaptations of classic works such as the Divine Comedy and Paradise Lost, students will seek to understand their place in a rapidly evolving new century where the boundaries between good and evil are not so clear-cut. Studying works from the Anglo-Saxon Period through the Modernist movement will provide students with the necessary foundation to become better thinkers and writers. |
