1215 Sophomore English (CP) – Grade 10 – 5 Credits
The new focus of Sophomore English is on the American tradition in literature. A renewed emphasis will also be placed on expository writing, providing students with the necessary skills for their multifaceted academic and career tracks in today’s global economy. In this course revision, teachers and students will explore the classical canon with representative works from the puritan period through the modernist movement. The new class also tests and expands the boundaries of traditional survey classes by incorporating contemporary fiction, non-fiction, film, and a variety of other forms of new media into the curriculum. Some of the major authors to be studied in Sophomore English include Nathaniel Hawthorne, Edgar Allan Poe, Mark Twain, F. Scott Fitzgerald, J.D. Salinger, Sylvia Plath, and Sherman Alexie. |
